Affirmed Networks Named as Finalist for Two Prominent Industry Awards

Affirmed Networks is pleased to announce that we have been named as a “Finalist” for two prominent industry awards that will be announced in the coming weeks.

We were named as a finalist in the Fierce Innovation Awards: Telecom Edition 2016 for the category of “Business Transformation Management: SDN/NFV” where we have been shortlisted along with two other deserving technology companies. The winner of this award will be announced as part of live webcast on Thursday, November 17th at 2PM. Please tune in to cheer us on.

The other award where we have been named a “Finalist” is for the Wireless Broadband Alliance 2016 Industry Awards, where were have been recognized along with two other innovative companies in the “Best Next Gen Wi-Fi Network Infrastructure” category. The award winner will be announced at a ceremony during the WBA Wireless Global Congress in San Jose, November 14th – 17th in San Jose, CA.

On behalf of the entire team at Affirmed Networks, we are truly honored to be considered for these awards along with such other worthy technology providers. We remain focused on helping our customers and the industry as a whole to transform their networks toward virtualized architectures, and would like to thank both the Fierce Innovation Awards and the WBA Awards for their recognition of the importance of this goal. New Report Examines Service Orchestration: Provides Insights into How CSPs can Embrace the Platform Revolution

A recently released report from the TM Forum sponsored by Affirmed Networks, Affirmed Networks Sponsors TM Forum Orchestration Insight Reporttakes a close look at how Communications Service providers (CSPs) can save, on average, the equivalent of their entire capital budget by embracing new Service Orchestration technologies and processes. According to the report, these savings stem largely from the operational efficiencies gained from this approach, without including the increased agility CSPs gain as well.

While the potential for achieving these material savings is real, the report looks at some of the challenges CSPs face when attempting to orchestrate services across virtualized and physical networks. Through the findings of the report, CSPs can gain an in-depth view of best practices for effectively leveraging Service Orchestration to gain optimal business results. The Intelligent Transformation: How Operators Can Build a 5G Ready Network Today!

As this is occurring, operators are also being challenged to understand the requirements of 5G services so that they can embrace this new generation of networks as seamless and cost-effectively as possible.

What only a few forward-thinking operators understand now, however, is that these two efforts can be done simultaneously with the right strategy, technology, and guidance.

In a webinar hosted by Heavy Reading, Juniper Networks’ Mobile Network Architect, Phil Lamoureux, and I presented how best-in-class software-based mobile core solutions, and distributed data center infrastructure are being used by operators globally. During this webinar, we looked at the pending arrival of 5G to understand some of its key service requirements. The examination of all three components provides a holistic view into how operators can simultaneously invest in flexible, “5G ready” applications and the required infrastructure to support them over 4G today and 5G tomorrow.

What it Means to be Carrier Grade

Today, Affirmed Networks and HP announced their collaboration to deliver a carrier-grade OpenStack NFV solution for mobile networks. This collaboration helps to bring NFV deeper into the carrier networks by allaying any concerns about the stability, performance, and technical understanding of open source technologies that are at the foundation of NFV today.

Carrier-Grade, Defined:

What is “carrier-grade”? According to Wikipedia, a “carrier-grade” or “carrier-class” refers to a system, or a hardware or software component that is extremely reliable, well tested and proven in its capabilities. Affirmed Networks and HP have worked closely together to jointly test the HP Helion environment under the performance demanding workload of a virtual Evolved Packet Core. Any carrier-grade system must be highly available and provide best in class performance and manageability. Particularly for the NFV workloads that can be much more demands on the cloud infrastructure than enterprise or even cloud application. In a carrier environment, packet rates, latency, uptime are the key tenants of a high functioning network and carriers can be assured that the Affirmed Networks vEPC and HP Helion environment excel on all fronts. The Helion management system is fully redundant and scalable that provides a system that can grow with carrier demands. Affirmed Networks’ vEPC dovetails nicely with the Helion environment providing the best performance and scale available.

The Helion OpenStack environment provides VNFs and carriers with the support of both SR-IOV and DPDK enabled vSwitch capabilities to suit a variety of carried SDN architectures and aspirations. Combined with the global support and technical guidance of HP configuring the system the way a carrier wants is easy and well supported.

The output of this collaboration is a turnkey environment for NFV that brings with it the hardened infrastructure that carriers require to run their businesses. To be a carrier-grade system, it must be robust and resilient to failure but also performant. Additionally, in today’s carrier with the advent of NFV, it must be flexible and dynamic.

Affirmed and HP have delivered all of this is a neatly packaged environment that gets carriers up and running in no time.
